The infection is found to be caused by the runaway evolution of the nanomachines. Nanomachines are banned in all human territory. Under the command of the United Operations Forces, the Anti-Machina Special Forces, commonly called REPAIR, are created. From this point on, Earth becomes totally closed to outsiders.

Ganymede, the largest and most populated of Jupiter’s moons, falls to the Machina completely. Seven extraordinary Machina are reported among the Queen-class Machina present on Ganymede. They are designated Queen-class Alpha Machina. Approximately half of Europa is lost to the Machina.

80% of the Jupiter system is lost to the Machina. The United Operations Forces begin withdrawing everything they can and fortifying the asteroid belt. Mars and most space stations face a major resource crisis since they relied on the Jupiter system and the asteroid belt for many resources.
