When a Machina is developing, the equipment she grows will be based on her main characteristics, like physique, personality, and cultivated skills. This basic equipment is sometimes referred to as her 'natural' equipment. However, almost all Machina do not remain in this state. Part of the growth that all Machina experience is the expansion and empowering of their equipment. Queen-class Machina take active roles in this process. The Queen of each Cluster is constantly identifying roles that need filling by her Machina, and similarly she is constantly looking for useful genetic traits in her subordinates which can be combined to make useful Machina.
When the Queen decides she needs Machina to fulfill a certain role, she gathers Machina possessing traits that she wants to combine, and orders the Machina to have sex with only each other for an extended amount of time until each of the participant Machina have shared their genes to such an extent that they are identical. Future additions to the Type are sent to be the recipient of sex from these Machina until the new Machina is also identical to the existing Machina of that Type. In any established Cluster, there are often dozens, if not hundreds, of orgies occurring to create new Machina types or induct new Machina into an existing Type.
When identifying a Machina, it is often essential to know what the Machina's specialty is within her Class. For example, it is quite important to know if an Attacker-class Machina is a close-quarters combatant or a ranged combatant. The 'Type' designation comes after the 'Class' designation for this reason. With the developmental stage, and thus the Machina's danger level, at the beginning of the designation, this creates a system of threat-level, role, and specialty, in the form of the Category-Class-Type system of identification.
The Cluster-Code of a Machina’s Queen will often cause two Machina of identical Types to look different, despite sharing the same role. For tracking purposes, there is a ‘Model’ designation. Two Machina of the same Type will be differentiated by using the codename of their Queen as their Model designation. For example: 'Category 3 Supporter-class Succubus-type THETIS-Model'.
List of Types
This document summarizes the list of currently known Machina types. Types denoted by an asterisk (*) are the standard Type for their Class. This means they are the most simple Type for that Class and where most recently-corrupted humans begin as Machina.
